Interesting to note that two current summer movies qualify as cinematic ourobori:

  • The Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise, based on the Disney World theme park ride, has been so successful that the original ride has since been modified to include characters from the movies. (There’s even a rumor that Disney is planning to create a new, second POTC ride based solely on the movies.)
  • Michael Bay’s Transformers movie, based on the Hasbro toys from the 1980s, has occasioned a new line of Transformers toys from Hasbro that correspond with the new robot designs from the movie.

Am I missing any? (Novelizations don’t count.)

The ouroboros being the ancient emblem depicting a serpent devouring its own tail.

I’m Scott David Herman, I’m an American living in Canada, and I’ve been running erasing.org since 1999.

The expatriate life is very glamorous. I live and work on the fifth floor of a mid-rise glass-and-concrete ant farm situated in the abandoned ruins of downtown Hamilton, that legendary city many call the most beautiful smoke-spewing slag heap in all of Southern Ontario.

I enjoy staring into open books, mentally rotating Shakespeare’s skeleton, stacking objects in my quote-unquote office, and chopping at the Parnassian permafrost in the company of my wife Laura.

You can email me at scott at erasing.org.
